It was through bicycling, as an amateur cross-country and long-distance mountain bike racer in her adult years, that Emmy was first introduced to Pilates.
She became a stronger, more balanced mountain biker, able to ride and recover without low back pain. After reaping the benefits as a practitioner of Pilates for more than six years, she decided to become an instructor and share her joyful experience and passion for physical fitness with others. She received her Intermediate Plus Teacher Certification from The Pilates Center in Boulder, Colorado in 2019.
As a teacher, Emmy is compassionate about making Pilates accessible to people of all abilities, in a caring, encouraging, and welcoming environment. Yet, she challenges her clients to reach their physical fitness potential. After all, through the achievement and maintenance of the entire system of body, mind, and spirit, practitioners of Pilates are able to “naturally, easily, and satisfactorily [perform their] many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure.” Joseph H. Pilates, Return to Life.
Emmy grew up in the Netherlands. She holds law degrees from University of Utrecht, Howard University, and St. Louis University. She has also received a Level One Certification in mountain bike instruction and guiding from the Professional Mountain Bike Instructor Association.
