Springboard News from Along the East Coast

A sunny spring break trip to Florida had Meredith and Ashley learning archival exercises from The Pilates Center’s Amy Taylor Alpers and Kelli Burkhalter Hutchins. The material in the workshops, Archival Reformer and Utilizing the Archival Tower Exercises to Build Upper Body Power, was been taken wholly from the archival film footage and photography of Joseph Pilates teaching in the early 1940s. The Archival Exercises, with their subtle alterations and variations in form and choreography, provide valuable “new” insights into the purpose and goal of the exercises.  Want a sneak peek of an archival exercise? Here’s a video of Meredith performing Flying Fish.
